QUESTION:

How much do you charge for a website?

Imagine you're a home builder, and someone asks you, "How much does it cost to build a house?"

You can't answer that question until you know how big the house is, how complex the construction is and what the building materials are. How many rooms does it have? Is there one heating system or two? Are the floors covered in cheap carpet or imported marble?

Likewise, we really can't estimate with any accuracy how much a website will cost until we know how many pages it will have, how many different templates it needs, what the back end needs are, and so forth.

To define this with accuracy requires thorough research and planning, but after a first meeting and discussion about what you want out of your website, we can usually give you a very general idea of what the price range might be.

We will estimate research and planning up front. That cost varies from a few hundred dollars and up. (We will be more specific when we meet in person.) At the end of the research phase, we will provide you with a research report that includes recommended pages, a proposed site map, a rough content outline, a description of the look we’ll be after, and a more finely-tuned estimate on what the rest of the project will cost — broken into phases, if you wish. The information in this document will be extremely helpful and will save you money in the long run, whether you retain our services for the remainder of the project, or hire another web developer.
